The main track surface is 8.876 m2 and was delivered to the Khalifa International Stadium in 681 rolls in January 2018. The warmup track was installed in summer 2019. Its surface is 7.394 m2. The average daily temperature during the installation period was 45/48 degrees Celsius. The warmup track was delivered in 376 rolls. Two professional installers from Mondo, helped by a crew of 4 local installers (Mondo dealer), installed the warmup track in only 30 days.
This is confirmation that Mondo’s track surfaces are pre-manufactured in a controlled factory environment. Unlike poured-in-place surfaces, Mondo’s track surfaces are not affected by climatic conditions during installations. Thanks to this feature, main track and warm-up track will guarantee the same performance characteristics regardless the radically different installation conditions. During the championships the main track will be air conditioned, the warm-up track will not. Mondo’s track surfaces are specifically formulated to guarantee the same grip and elastic performance over the widest range of temperatures. Thanks to this unique feature, all athletes will be granted the possibility to warm-up on a track surface performing exactly the same of the one they will compete on, regardless the extreme difference of temperature between the two adjacent facilities.
In total, 244 tons of rubber were used, and 1,057 rolls measuring 1.22 meters (w) by 15 meters (l) and weighing 200 kilograms each were sent from Italy to Doha.
